I wanted to share a recent clinical outcome from Walk Easy Pedorthics that may be relevant to patients on your caseload.
We recently assessed a patient presenting with an equinus deformity — with the heel elevated off the ground at rest and during ambulation. He was ambulant with a walker and had resorted to wearing thongs as the only footwear he could get on his feet.
The risks were clear: no heel contact, no pressure redistribution, no skin protection, and a meaningful falls risk given his gait pattern and mobility aid use.
Following a full pedorthic assessment, we fabricated custom medical footwear specifically designed to address the deformity:
High-ankle upper to support and accommodate the affected limb Dual fastening system (lace and side zip) for independent and assisted donning Padded collar to protect the lower leg Stable, wide-base sole unit for improved balance and weight transfer Internal modifications to encourage heel contact and correct alignment through the foot

The outcome: the patient is now achieving full heel contact, correct foot alignment, and full weight-bearing across the entire plantar surface of the foot — a clinically significant improvement from a presentation where the heel had no ground contact whatsoever.
If you have patients with complex foot and lower limb presentations — equinus, Charcot, post-surgical changes, or feet that simply don't fit standard footwear — we'd welcome a referral or a conversation.
